The Central Bingo Hall building which was found in the middle of Barrhead is now non-existing after getting engulfed in smoke a few days back. Many people were evacuated from the nearby buildings while the bingo hall gets engulfed by fire.
More than 45 fire fighters from the country had worked to tackle the fire. However they were beaten by the intense flames and heat wherein the fire was declared to be too dangerous for the fire fighters to remain in the building.
This bingo hall was first built in the 1030’s to be a cinema for the town. However it was turned into a bingo hall in the 1970s and had remained closed for some time before the fire struck.
So intense was the fire that the entire street was corned off where traffic was diverted into another route. The fire chief, John Cooper said that at a point, there was danger of the flames spreading from the building to premises on either side. It was the Gym and Bar 51 that actually prevented the flames from spreading.
When the building was considered to be safe, the fire service will start their investigations on the fire. Moreover, the police will also be carrying on their enquiries to the matter.
