Lights to be pulled out in bingo club

Written by: Nikola Zugic on 26/06/2008 03:30

The Flutters Bingo Club located in Station Road, Biggleswade may have its bright lights pulled out as it has been accused of making its bingo club look more like something from the sea front at Blackpool, full of lights.

The Mid Beds District Council has been instructed by Biggleswade Town Council to take enforcement action immediately against the bingo club for the removal of the lights. According to the council, the bingo club has gone against all planning conditions and had never actually sought permission to erect those lights in a conservation area.

They say that all businesses have to follow the law, and what the bingo club has done is not acceptable. However a director of Flutters Bingo Clubs Ian Tyler hopes to reach an agreement about the lights and agrees that no permission was sought to put up the lights.

He says he would be meeting planning officers at the end of the week to reach an agreement. He had actually planned to deal with this matter for some time. They had tried to boost the bingo club by attracting more players because of the rough waters the club is going through with the smoking ban.

However a spokesman from MBDC says that Mid Beds would not pull the plug at the bingo club as yet. They are keeping a watch, and hope to find a solution that suits everyone. However if they don’t reach a solution, they have no alternative but to take appropriate action.
