A Mecca Bingo visitor was denied the use of the toilets unless they became a member despite carrying and showing his card from the Colitis and Crohn's Association stating that he has a non contagious illness that means he requires the frequent and urgent use of the lavatory. Ian Mann, a 40 year old taxi driver, was left bewildered to say the least.
Mecca Bingo has released a public apology stating that while it is their club practice not to allow non-members access to the building, they do make exceptions under these circumstances and that they will discuss the decision not only with the member of staff responsible for this decision but with all of their staff that work within the Mecca Bingo halls in order to ensure that this kind of thing doesn't happen again.
Mr Mann suffers from a disease called ulcerative colitis which affects as many as 1 in 500 people in the UK and he is trying to raise awareness of the illness in the hope of preventing this kind of occurrence in the future.
